San Marco + Rialto Bridge wander · don't rush · the getting-lost IS the thing
Gelato stop approximately 4,000 options available. you cannot pick wrong.
Gondola ride — kids will remember this forever €90 for the whole gondola · up to 5 people · 30 min · after 7pm it's €110 (serenata rate) · split between the family it's a no-brainer
L'Osteria Le Guglie — our seafood pick doesn't look fancy from outside · food and service exceptional · not pricey · near the gondola spot
Drive back to Garda by evening tired feet · full hearts · great memories

Trip highlight

Lago di Braies — the photo you've seen everywhere. go see it for real.

Early breakfast, on the road by 7am coffee to go · beat the tourist wave · in July/Aug, the lake is only yours before 9am
1h45 drive through the Dolomites mountain roads that make your jaw drop
Turquoise alpine lake + impossible peaks arrive early · swim in an empty lake · real life, not a filter
Rowboats on the lake kids go wild · grandparents go emotional
Lunch at the lake — food's good, yes touristy, worth it don't linger too long · the pool back at the hotel has a closing time you'll want to make
Race back for pool + jacuzzi before 8pm dinner at the hotel or nearby bistros · last night of Italy · make it count

Goodbye
Long travel day

Dolomites → Milan. Arrivederci, Italy.

Final mountain breakfast — included unhurried · squeeze every last minute of the view
Viewpoint stops on the way down we pulled over whenever the mountains asked us to · nobody complained
Roadside pizzeria for lunch nothing fancy · breaks the drive · kids stretch their legs · grandparents get coffee
4 hours back to Milan — plan for it leave the hotel in the morning · don't schedule an early flight
Why in & out of Milan? one-way rental drops cost €80–200 extra · round-trip saved us money and matched cheaper flights · worth the drive back
Or split it in two — grab an Airbnb halfway if 4 hours feels like too much · stop near Verona or Lake Como · fly out rested on Day 11 · no guilt either way
Return car, airport, done tired legs · full phones · the kids already asking when we're coming back
Round-trip saveSplit-it optionLong but worth it
